At Grow Business Solutions, we thrive on understanding the big picture. We love to delve into the intricacies of your organisation and uncover the hidden trails that are blocking the path to sustainable success. In a nutshell, we love systems thinking.
Systems thinking is a way of developing plans for action by investigating and understanding the connected wholes of your organisation, as opposed to the separate parts. There are four key concepts in systems thinking:
- Context and belief systems – what is the view of your system from your employees, your managers, your customers, your community and how do these differ?
- Parts, wholes and layers – how is your puzzle organised?
- Connections and loops – how does your puzzle interact?
- Processes – how has change happened?
I get it. You’re probably thinking, ugh, theoretical mumbo jumbo. Why can’t I just get on and do what I’ve always done?
But this is where systems thinking is key. Because when you fail to understand how things are interconnected, you can very easily create blockages along the way.
Think of it as an iceberg. The tip of the iceberg, the part that you clearly see poking out of the ocean, is the most obvious part – the issue that you recognise straight away. The less obvious parts are underwater. And there are levels to these parts. As we go lower, we begin to examine the patterns, the structures and the beliefs which, as business owners, we may not even be able to notice exist as they are so deep-rooted. Those lower levels are where real change starts to happen.
A deep dive into the inner systems of your business can be time consuming. It can be especially difficult to carry out from a place of absolute objectivity.
This is where we come in. We are experts at systems thinking. If this is something you think your business needs help with then we will be happy to help. Just drop us an email at hello@goodbusinessesgrow.co.uk for more information.
